Damage from Waterproof Mascara

Most makeup wearers use mascara on a daily basis, and many people use waterproof mascara on a daily basis, because they like that it stays put all day and is resistant to moisture, sweat, and tears. This is certainly an attractive feature of waterproof mascara, but it comes at a cost. In order to stay put all day, it contains ingredients, like waxes and silicone-based ingredients, that dry out and stiffen eyelashes, making them more prone to falling out and breaking.
On top of this, waterproof mascara is notoriously difficult to remove. It usually takes more effort and stronger cleansers to remove waterproof mascara than regular mascara or other makeup. At the end of a long day, when it’s late and you’re tired, the thought of having to fight with your mascara to take it off might discourage you from making the effort to remove it. But now you’re caught in a bit of a catch-22: to take your waterproof mascara off, you’ll need to rub and pull at your eyelash line, irritating your skin weakening and damaging your eyelashes; if you choose not to take it off and sleep in it, you risk other damage and breakage to your eyelashes.

So what is a girl to do? One solution would be simply not to use waterproof mascara, but that may not be an option for you. Another solution is to use a different cleansing approach. Gentle, oil-based cleansers, like Lumin8, can break down waterproof formulas much more easily than traditional water-based alternatives.

Simply put two pumps of Lumin8 onto a wet cotton pad and wipe the pad across your eyelashes to dissolve makeup. Repeat until the pad comes off clean. Then use a wet washcloth or cotton pads to remove the excess oil at the end. You’ll see that you manage to take even the most stubborn mascara off while being gentle with and moisturizing and nourishing your eyelashes.
